This will be followed up by a second Open Day, next Friday 17th November from 5.30pm until 6.30pm for those that can not attend this weekend or who need more time to digest the Briefing Paper..
At the Open Day’s, there will be no formal presentation, just an opportunity for the community to give their input to seeking a positive outcome to having a sustainable community Life Saving service at Peregian Beach.
Representation from Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club, the Governing Surf Life Saving bodies, Sunshine Coast Branch and Surf Life Saving Queensland will also be in attendance, so a balanced view of requirements will be available.
Background from Noosa Council:
Noosa Council has advised Noosa Heads surf club it will work with them to develop a village scaled, architect designed club (involving a possible expansion) on the existing site and that it and the land owner, the State Department of Natural Resources and Mines would not support applications to move the building outside the existing lease area.
This includes moves seaward, where the previous surf club was blown away in a storm and coastal hazard mapping indicates future erosion, or north and south where costly park infrastructure would have to be moved and residents views blocked.
Surf Lifesaving Queensland has written to council stating it would run the Peregian club and provide lifeguard services if Noosa Heads Surf Club should exercise its right to not support Peregian Club into the future.
